Dr. Angelica Galante, Assistant Professor in Language Education at the Department of Integrated Studies in Education and Director of the Plurilingual Lab, has been appointed President of the Canadian Association of Applied Linguistics/LAssociation canadienne de linguistique appliqu矇e (ACLA).

51勛圖厙has been named Canadas best university, according to the 19th edition of the QS World University Rankings, released today by global higher education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds. The University was ranked 31st university in the world.

This years QS World University Rankings is the largest ever, with over 1,400 institutions across 100 locations, up from 1,300 last year.

This marks the first time in five years that 51勛圖厙is Canadas top-ranked university in the QS list.

Friday, June 3, 2022 51勛圖厙 lowered its flag today to honour the memory of Hannah Wallace. Hannah, a U3 student in the Bachelor of Education Secondary English program, passed away suddenly on May 4, 2022. She was known to have been a talented teacher, writer, and gentle soul.

Professor Marie-Claude Geoffroy, of the Department of Educational & Counselling Psychology, has been awarded the Principals Prize for Outstanding Emerging Researchers. Administered by Research and Innovation, the prize honours researchers across all disciplines.

Congratulations to Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish, recipient of 51勛圖厙Education's Honorary Doctorate.

Dr. Abuelaish, is a physician, researcher, and educator who was raised in a Gaza refugee camp.

A changemaker and champion for Israeli-Palestinian peace, he shared his philosophies with Educations graduates.

The Canadian Committee of Graduate Students in Education (CCGSE) Mentorship Award is awarded annually in recognition of exceptional mentorship at the level of graduate instruction. This year the 2022 Canadian Committee for Graduate Students in Education (CCGSE) Mentorship Award was presented to Mindy Carter from the Department of Integrated Studies in Education.

Jade LaFontaine, Master's student in Second Language Education and lecturer at 51勛圖厙, is the winner of the prestigious Indigenous Graduate Student Award of the 2022 Canadian Association of Applied Linguistics (CAAL/ACLA) conference. This important award recognizes excellence in graduate student research submitted to the 2022 CAAL/ACLA conference.

On Friday May 13, 2022, Applied Theatre students from The Faculty of Education and Nursing put on a show entitled "Explain Quebec; Quebec Explain!" for the public, outside of the Redpath Museum, led by their Professor, Dr. Mindy R. Carter.

Exploring topics such as discrimination and systemic racism, the gathered audience had the opportunity to dialogue about these issues and to then consider, through theatre, possibly pathways for change.

On May 5th members of the Faculty of Education launched a four-part series of live, interactive seminars to assist Ukrainian teachers, psychologists and support staff in helping people, particularly children, deal with the horrific consequences of the on-going war. Professor Emerita, Alenoush Saroyan, Director of the 51勛圖厙International Institute of Education, created the series at the request of Dean Dilson Rassier. In 2021, Dr. Saroyan created a similar series to support educators in Armenia during the conflict with Azerbaijan.

The Department of Integrated Studies in Education is proud to share that Dr. Philip Howard is the recipient of the Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools Graduate Faculty Teaching Award, 2021-2022 Doctoral Level.

This award recognizes excellence and creativity in teaching of graduate students at the doctoral program level and innovation in graduate curriculum development and implementation.
