Long dismissed as junk, viral fragments buried in human DNA may help regulate our genes, according to a new international study co-led by Guillaume Bourque, professor in McGills Department of Human Genetics, D2R-funded researcher and member of the D2R Research Steering Committee and Executive (RSC). The findings offer new insights into what makes us human, 25 years after the human genome was first mapped.

The department's SandClub is an informal, interdisciplinary journal club where students tackle the big issue of global sand scarcity. Since March 2022, SandClub has run 25 sessions with more than 60 students from five facultiestransforming classic paper discussions into real-world peer-review workshops that build research confidence and demystify academic publishing.
