Doctoral work, by its nature a journey into uncharted territory, can be an uphill, lonesome slog at the best of times.泭Throw in a global pandemics uncertainty and isolating lockdowns including no access to labs, libraries or even fieldwork and it is little wonder that doctoral students were sending out distress signals.泭Recently, a team of Quebec researchers conducted an exploratory study泭on the effects the pandemic had on doctoral students. They discovered distress was much higher among female doctoral students, who also reported higher rates of disruption in their research progress.

In partnership with the Douglas Research Centre, Dr. Marie-Claude Geoffroy (Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology) has released an inciteful video introduction to The effects of walking in nature on negative and positive affect in adult psychiatric outpatients with major depressive disorder: A randomized-controlled study. Dr. Marie-Claude G矇offroy is a Canada Research Chair in Youth Suicide Prevention.

On May 5th members of the Faculty of Education launched a four-part series of live, interactive seminars to assist Ukrainian teachers, psychologists and support staff in helping people, particularly children, deal with the horrific consequences of the on-going war. Professor Emerita, Alenoush Saroyan, Director of the 51勛圖厙International Institute of Education, created the series at the request of Dean Dilson Rassier. In 2021, Dr. Saroyan created a similar series to support educators in Armenia during the conflict with Azerbaijan.
