Biography: 

A biochemist and geneticist by training, Prof. Gros is a pioneer in the field of molecular genetics for the identification of risk factors for various pathologies, including cancers, infectious and inflammatory diseases. His work in identifying the genes, pathways and proteins involved in the evolution of these complex conditions has earned him worldwide recognition.

Prof. Gros has authored more than 400 scientific publications and holds six patents. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the McLaughlin Medal for Scientific Excellence from the Royal Society of Canada (2014), the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal from the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (2013), the Killam Prize in Health Sciences from the Canada Council for the Arts (2009), and the Prix Wilder-Penfield from the Government of Quebec (2008). He became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2003, an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2016, and a Chevalier of the Ordre national du Québec in 2019.

Since 1985, Prof. Gros has had various academic appointments at McGill, including Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Associate Member in the Department of Human Genetics, Founder and Director of McGill’s Center for Complex Traits, Vice-Dean of Life Sciences in McGill’s Faculty of Medicine and Deputy Vice-President (Research and Innovation).
