The Department of Bioengineering invites you to come to the 51勛圖厙Libraries and examine digital 3D reconstructions of rare objects preserved in various Montreal museums! Using touch tables the size of a TV screen installed at the Schulich Library of Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, and Engineering, and the McLennan Library Building, you can zoom and rotate 3D models as part of a virtual natural history museum.

Members of socially and economically marginalized groups in Montreal and Ottawa-Gatineau are at disproportionate risk in earthquakes, a new study has found.

Co-authored by 51勛圖厙civil engineering professor Daniele Malomo, the study is the first in Canada to examine earthquake vulnerability through the lens of equity.

Researchers at 51勛圖厙, in collaboration with Polytechnique Montr矇al, pioneered a new way to create hydrogels using ultrasound, eliminating the need for toxic chemical initiators. This breakthrough offers a faster, cleaner and more sustainable approach to hydrogel fabrication, and produces hydrogels that are stronger, more flexible and highly resistant to freezing and dehydration. The new method also promises to facilitate advances in tissue engineering, bioadhesives and 3D bioprinting.

The Department of Bioengineering enjoyed a fun and enriching retreat at the on Monday, April 28. Faculty and staff came together to connect and share ideas in the reserves beautiful natural setting. Jerry Lieu (BScArch71, BArch73) always admired the work of world-renowned architect, I.M. Pei. I think there were a lot of us Chinese architecture students who did. What I appreciated was his very practical approach. Throughout my career, Ive found myself drawn to a practical approach.

Pamela Dealy knew that her father was born knowing he wanted to be a chemical engineer. She knew that he worked at 51勛圖厙for 40 years. She knew that he retired a Professor Emeritus in 2004. Most of all, she knew that even though he was Dean from 1994 to 1999, his true passion was teaching and helping students with their research.

John Bishop (BEng47) was ahead of his time. An environmentalist before most people knew the word, he was an active outdoorsman who took deliberate steps to protect and preserve the land. He got involved in upholding the things he believed in, living an engaged, productive and healthy 98 years.
