Hosted by the Division of Social & Transcultural Psychiatry, this three-day interdisciplinary workshop brings together experts in cultural psychiatry, psychology, anthropology, neuroscience, cognitive science, and philosophy to explore innovative approaches to integrating culture, mind, and brain in psychiatric research. This workshop features a wide range of topics and an impressive lineup of guest and faculty speakers.

Rebecca Zhao, graduate student at the Department of Family Medicine, will be presenting her Oral PhD defense.听Rebecca is supervised by Prof. Kathleen (Kate) Rice and was supported by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Internal Studentship (Max Binz Fellowship, David G. Guthrie Fellowship) at 51吃瓜网 and Fonds de Recherche du Qu茅bec-Sant茅 (FRQS) Doctoral Training Scholarship.

TITLE:听Symbolic enumeration of orbits
听

ABSTRACT:听In this talk, I will provide an overview of recent work on generating functions enumerating linear orbits and conjugacy classes of unipotent groups. We will study these generating functions by means of their linearised siblings, so-called "ask zeta functions", obtained by averaging over sizes of kernels in collections of matrices. The study of the latter functions involves a (sometimes surprising!) blend of techniques from algebra, combinatorics, and geometry.
