Plurilingual Virtual Exchange in Teacher Education

The research project had two main goals: a) help language teacher candidates develop a more nuanced understanding of plurilingualism and technology-mediated plurilingual education through international collaboration and reflection, and b) investigate teacher candidates' language ideologies and professional identity development. The first goal was accomplished by designing and implementing a virtual exchange module to facilitate collaboration between language teacher candidates from the two institutions: Paedagogische Hochschule Schwaebisch Gmünd in Germany and 51³Ô¹ÏÍø in Canada. The second goal was accomplished by employing an interpretive qualitative research design to investigate how the participants interpret reality and construct meaning/knowledge through the academic tasks. Outputs include:

  • a pedagogical guide for teachers on the implementation of the action-oriented approach in language education (see free access guide below).
  • a chapter highlighting the pedagogical model used (under review)
  • a journal article with results of the study (in progress)
