Membership Benefits

Membership in MCLL includes many benefits, including access to facilities and services for regular 51³Ô¹ÏÍøstudents. As well, MCLL offers many special events and services, planned and executed by volunteer members. You will enjoy not only new social interactions and acquaintances but also the benefits listed below.

MCLL Member's Card

Your MCLL Member’s Card is your key to 51³Ô¹ÏÍølibrary and IT services. The card displays your permanent 9-digit 51³Ô¹ÏÍøID number, plus the card’s expiry date. Note that your ID number remains the same, even if you skip renewing your membership for a while. A Member’s Card makes you eligible for student rates at 51³Ô¹ÏÍøconcerts and plays, as well as at some other venues around town. Just ask if it’s recognized.


Livestreamed lectures

Some MCLL lectures are livestreamed and recorded so you can enjoy them from the comfort of your home. They can be also accessed through our YouTube Channel.


Special Events

Social and educational special events are organized by and for the membership. Past events include lectures by 51³Ô¹ÏÍøfaculty, art shows, annual holiday and pre-summer parties, and conferences on seniors’ learning.


Access to Libraries

Ìýhelps members navigate 51³Ô¹ÏÍøLibraries and find out what resources are available.

To obtain a library card, bring your MCLL Member’s Card or your study group registration information, along with photo ID and proof of address, to any Library Service Desk. You'll set up a PIN and receive a library card with a barcode. The card expires twice yearly, but is automatically renewed for MCLL members.

Books, CDs, and DVDs can be borrowed for 30 days and are automatically renewed unless requested by another borrower. The 51³Ô¹ÏÍøLibraries website offers extensive information on services, research, and access to resources. Help is available via email, instant messaging, or telephone. Library staff are knowledgeable and very willing to assist with any inquiries.

Information Technology (IT) Services

51³Ô¹ÏÍøprovides excellent IT support for its students (which includes MCLL members). Extensive web content, phone support and help via videoconferencing or in-person are available. Students can use computers in most libraries or on the 12th floor, above MCLL’s premises. Phone assistance is available at 514-398-3398 (9 am to 5 pm) and works well. Below are the most popular IT links. To access a live chat agent (9 am to 5 pm), click the blue chat button at the bottom right on each page. IT services, chat and some web pages require your 51³Ô¹ÏÍøID number or logging in with your 51³Ô¹ÏÍøemail and password.

Rory O'Sullivan DVD Collection

The family of the late Rory O’Sullivan has generously donated his personal collection of opera and music DVDs for the pleasure and enjoyment of MCLL members.  Rory played an active role at MCLL. He moderated two study groups every term, served as President in 2005-06, and was chairman of the Curriculum Committee for four years. years. His knowledge and passion for opera, coupled with his legendary Opera Study Groups, inspired huge numbers.

💡Note that a print copy of the catalogue & supplement are available for consultation in the MCLL Office.

Borrowing Procedure for DVDs

Just as with 51³Ô¹ÏÍølibrary privileges, this DVD collection is available to full MCLL members only.  Members will have to fill out a copy of the PDF icon DVD Borrowing Request Form to borrow DVDs from the collection. The completed form should be sent to mcll.scs [at] mcgill.ca or submitted in person to office staff or volunteers.


Members' Help Site

Created and managed by MCLL members, this is an additional resource for MCLL participants and moderators. It contains many PDFs with instructions for a variety of tasks, as well as links to enhance your MCLL experience. PDFs can be downloaded or printed.
