ISID ADVISING: EffectiveÌýCurrently

Types of Advising at ISID and OASIS:

IDS Program Advising provides the following:

  1. IDS Program navigation:ÌýThe IDS program advisorsÌýexplainÌýprogram rules, structure, and requirements to ensure students are on the right track.Ìý
  2. IDS Course planning:ÌýThey help students select appropriate courses and understand prerequisites.ÌýThey review and approve TR credits for IDS Students intending to studyaway orÌýgo on exchange. They review and approve 'substitution request' which are courses that exist at 51³Ô¹ÏÍøbut are not part of the IDS program list.
  3. Goal setting:ÌýTheyÌýguideÌýstudents in identifying and then planning to meet their academic goals.Ìý
  4. Resource connection:ÌýTheyÌýact as a link to other campus services and resources that can help students succeed.Ìý
  5. IDS and Faculty of Arts Policy clarifications:ÌýIDS AdvisorsÌýexplain important academic policies, procedures, and consequences for not meeting them.Ìý
  6. IDS Progress tracking:ÌýIDS Advisors check a student's academic progress to ensure they are on track for graduation.Ìý
  7. Support:ÌýThey provide proactive support via connectingÌý51³Ô¹ÏÍøstudents to the appropriate departments at 51³Ô¹ÏÍøfor help. In particular, students who areÌýstruggling or need additional assistance, should be in regular contact with the different advisors at McGill. Mainly OASIS.
  8. Approve: They approve IDS Majors, Minors, Honours and Joint Honours for graduation for the Fall, Winter, and Summer graduation terms.Ìý

Majors, Honours and Joint Honours:ÌýHonours and Jt Honours IDS students should be meeting regularly with Lisa (once a term).

Minors:

NOTE: AdvisingÌýwill take place via email or online (Teams).The online appointment is held through MS Teams (works on mobile, desktop, or through a browser). Before your appointment, be sure to have properly setup .
