Renewing Immigration Documents

If your immigration documents have expired, you cannot resume your studies unless:

  1. You have
  2. You have obtained a new CAQ and Study Permit

All international students are responsible for maintaining valid immigration documents and legal status throughout the duration of their program of studies.

What You Need to Renew
Document Who Needs It Notes/Tips
Passport

Degree Students (Undergraduate & Graduate)Ìýcontinuing studies in the same degree or new degree.

  1. Your study permit and temporary resident visa (TRV) cannot be issued past the expiration date of your passport.
  2. Renew your passportÌýat least 6 months before expiry.
CAQ

Degree Students (Undergraduate & Graduate) continuing studies in the same degree or new degree.

Must be renewed and valid for study permit renewal.
Study Permit

Degree Student (Undergraduate & Graduate) continuing studies in the same degree or new degree.

Required for legal status in Canada.

Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or

Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)

  1. Based on nationality.
  2. ONLY U.S. Citizens and permanent residents are exempt from needing an eTA or a TRV
