Andrew Bateman
Dr. Bateman is interested in how communication between cells determines their normal and diseased behavior. He is currently working on the progranulin system and its roles in the nervous system, in the hope of finding new therapeutic strategies for neurodegenerative diseases. He obtained a PhD from the Biochemistry Department, Imperial College, London, UK, on protein mass spectrometry. He then undertook postdoctoral work at 51勛圖厙 before becoming an assistant and finally a full professor associated with the Division of Clinical and Translational Research. He has worked on CIHR selection committees at the MSc, PhD and Postgraduate level, as well as the former Vanier Scholarship program. He served on the Senate of 51勛圖厙, was formerly the site-director for the Royal Victoria Hospital for the Research Institute of the 51勛圖厙 Health Centre (RI-MUHC) and was on the management committee of the RI-MUHC until 2015.
