Dr. José A. Morais

José A. Morais, MD, FRCPC, CSPQ, FCGS

Dr. José A. Morais is Full Professor of Medicine and Academic Lead of the Dementia Education Program in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø. He is Director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine at the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Health Centre (MUHC) and Senior Scientist at the Research Institute of MUHC in the Metabolic Disorders and Complications Program.

Previously, Dr. Morais was the director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø (2009-2025) and at the Jewish General Hospital (2009-2023). He was the founder and first director of the Centre of Excellence on Aging and Chronic Disease of the RUIS 51³Ô¹ÏÍø(2012-2015) and co-leader on the implementation of the Quebec Provincial Alzheimer’s Plan in Primary Care. He was also past president of the Canadian Geriatrics Society (2013-2015) and past co-director of the Quebec Network for Research on Aging (2019-2023).

Dr. Morais holds an MD degree from the University of Montreal (1987) and completed a specialty in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø and a three-year research fellowship in Nutrition and Metabolism at the 51³Ô¹ÏÍøNutrition Centre. His research interests include nutrition and metabolism as they pertain to healthy and fragile aging and the organization of services for older adults. He has more than 190 original publications, most of them in high impact journals in the field of aging, nutrition and metabolism.
