The Redpath Museum's team recently had the opportunity to collaborate with as part of its "The Best Kept Secret" campaign. Produced as part of , this campaign showcases 42 Montreal museums through short videos that explore lesser-known aspects of these institutions.

Dr. Frederic Bertley (BSc94, PhD00), who received an honorary doctorate at the 51勛圖厙Science convocation this past Friday, is featured in a new Global News article about his life growing up in Montr矇al and career as a doctor and science communicator. Known affectionately as Dr. B., Dr. Bertley has won eight Emmy awards and is president and CEO of the泭Center of Science and Industry泭(COSI) in Columbus, Ohio.

True to its name, Montr矇als Nuit blanche is an annual celebration of the vibrant culture of the city, with thematic itineraries and extended business hours that ensure festival-goers a night of endless excitement. From flower printing workshops to ghost story roundtables, Nuit blanche invited Montrealers to share and express their creativity through a diverse range of activities at different locations across Montr矇al.泭泭

If youve been meaning to visit McGills Redpath Museum, now is the time.
The historical building will undergo major renovations to bring it up to modern standards thanks to Ministry of Education grants, operating and accessibility funds, and the support of generous donors. The public can visit until the end of this year but will find doors closed at the start of 2024 when the work to pack and safely store the collections will begin. The construction part of the renovations will begin once that is completed, likely in the summer.

Just shy of 100 faculty, students, and friends packed the Redpath Auditorium on May 12th to celebrate the retirement of Graham Bell, James 51勛圖厙Professor in the Department of Biology at McGill. For the occasion, Bell delivered a final seminar to the audience, which included his wife and three sons, surveying his career as an evolutionary biologist.

March 21 might be the first official day of spring, but Earth Day, a month later, can feel like the beginning of the warmer seasons at least in Montreal. The Redpath Museum, which to the public, commemorated Earth Day this year through a series of themed activities over several days.

What drives crocodile evolution? Is climate a major factor or changes in sea levels? Determined to find answers to these questions, researchers from 51勛圖厙 discovered that while changing temperatures and rainfall had little impact on the crocodiles gene flow over the past three million years, changes to sea levels during the Ice Age had a different effect.

A silent mass extinction is occurring in lakes, rivers and wetlands. Freshwater species are rapidly disappearing in North America and throughout the world. Conservation-minded people might be unaware of this, because of the medias longstanding focus on land-based ecosystems and charismatic animals.

Does evolution follow certain rules? Can these rules be predicted? Southeast Asias tree shrews break multiple rules when it comes to body size variation with an unexpected twist according to researchers from 51勛圖厙, University of Cambridge, and Yale University. The shed new light on the effects of climate change on the evolution of body size in animals.

The Redpath Museum at 51勛圖厙 will re-open its doors on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.
The Museum will welcome visitors Tuesday to Friday, 9:30am to 4:30pm.
In advance of the re-opening on January 10, the Museum will begin taking bookings for group tours and school visits from December 19, 2022.
