The Department of Economics is proud to announce that Professor Jean-Marie Dufour has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Mike McCracken Award for econometric statistics from the Canadian Economic Association. This prestigious award recognizes Professor Dufour's groundbreaking contributions to the field of econometrics, particularly his pioneering work in resampling and simulation-based methods, identification-robust methods, and the analysis of causal relationships.

The Department of Economics is pleased to announce that Professor Maggie E.C. Jones will be joining our faculty as an Associate Professor in August 2025. Professor Jones is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Emory University and a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research. She holds a PhD in Economics from Queen's University (2018) and has established herself as a leading scholar in economic history, labor economics, and the economics of education.

The Department of Economics is pleased to announce that Professor Nicolas Gendron-Carrier has been granted tenure. Professor Gendron-Carrier joined 51勛圖厙in 2018 and has established himself as a leading researcher in urban and labour economics. His work examines interactions between economic agents in cities at localized scale as well as the impacts of transportation infrastructure on urban development. We congratulate Professor Gendron-Carrier on this well-deserved recognition of his contributions to research, teaching, and service.

This prestigious fellowship is awarded by the Bank of England to a tenured full or chaired professor to promote research into and disseminate knowledge and understanding of the working, interaction and function of financial business institutions in the UK and elsewhere and the economic conditions affecting them. The Houblon-Norman Fellowship was established in 1944 to celebrate the 250th泭 anniversary of the Bank of England and it is named after the first Governor of the Bank, Sir John Houblon, and the Governor at the time of the anniversary, Montagu Norman.

We are happy to announce that泭Professor Sonia Laszlo泭has been promoted to Full Professor effective July 1,泭2024. Professor Laszlo has served the Department of Economics as an Assistant Professor of Economics from 2003-2010, and as Associate Professor since 2010. She has served in numerous administrative roles including Director of the Institute for the Study of International Development.

Dr. Claire Boone will be joining the Department of Economics and the Department of Equity, Ethics, and Policy in the School of Population and Global Health at 51勛圖厙 as an Assistant Professor in August 2024. She is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business, affiliated with the Centre for Applied Artificial Intelligence and the Center for Health and The Social Sciences.

We are happy to announce that泭Professor Fabian Lange泭has been confirmed as the incoming Chair of the Department of Economics, effective June 1, 2024. Professor Lange has also been awarded the REPAP Chair in Economics.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Professor Lange for taking on this important role and to泭Professor Francisco Ruge-Murcia泭for his accomplished service as Chair over the past five years (2019-2024).

In its most recent meeting in June 2024, the Canadian Economics Association (CEA) conferred the title of CEA Fellow to our dear colleague Vicky Zinde-Walsh. This award recognizes the achievements and contributions to our discipline of the most prominent economists who have spent a significant portion of their career in Canada. Dr. Santiago Camara joined the Department of Economics at 51勛圖厙 as an Assistant Professor in August 2023. He holds a PhD in Economics from Northwestern University (2023), an MA in Economics from Universidad de San Andres (2015), and a BA in Economics from Universidad de Buenos Aires (2013).

Victoria Zinde-Walsh's academic achievements include role-modelling and mentoring of young female scholars in a male dominated field. Her distinguished work in econometrics has served as example and inspiration for younger female economists and econometricians.

She has also played an important role in unifying the econometric community in Canada as Director of the Econometrics Study Group with its yearly conference. Her nomination letters from female scholars who grew and blossomed under Victorias wing are enthusiastic and full of genuine admiration of their mentor.
