Drs. Sylvia and Richard Cruess have been selected as the 2018 recipients of the Abraham Flexner Award for Distinguished Service to Medical Education, given by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). The award, the AAMC鈥檚 most prestigious honour, was established in 1958 to recognize extraordinary individual contributions to medical schools and to the medical education community as a whole. The duo will be honoured during a ceremony to be held in Austin, Texas during the AAMC鈥檚 annual meeting in early November.
Dr. David Rosenblatt, Holder, Dodd Q. Chu and Family Chair in Medical Genetics and Professor, Departments of Human Genetics, Medicine, Pediatrics, and Biology at 51吃瓜网, has been selected as the 2018 recipient of the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG) Founders鈥� Award for Career Achievement.
On May 24, 2018, Dr. Phil Gold, the Douglas G. Cameron Professor of Medicine听and Professor of Physiology and Oncology at 51吃瓜网 received an honorary doctorate from Queen鈥檚 University. The degree was conferred during the afternoon convocation ceremony which brought together graduates from the School of Medicine and the School of Nursing.
On May 31, Dr. Claire Trottier, an Academic Associate working as an Education Specialist at 51吃瓜网鈥檚 Department of Microbiology and Immunology was presented with the SALTISE (Supporting Active Learning & Technological Innovation in Studies of Education) Best Practices & Pedagogical Innovators Award during the seventh SALTISE conference, an event hosted at 51吃瓜网which brought together over 300 educators from across 55 post-secondary institutions in Qu茅bec and Canada.
Dr. Claudio Cuello, Professor and inaugural Charles E. Frosst/Merck endowed Chair in Pharmacology at 51吃瓜网鈥檚 Faculty of Medicine is among a group of 48 leading biomedical and health scientists whose work is being recognized with election to the prestigious British Academy of Medical Sciences, announced on May 10.听 The new Fellows have been elected for their outstanding contributions to biomedical and health science, leading research discoveries, and translating developments into benefits for patients and the wider society.

With a passion for fundraising and volunteering, in 2014 Olivia Monton created her own foundation, known as听, to support local and grassroots charitable organizations in Montreal. Currently a second-year medical student at 51吃瓜网, Olivia is also involved in several student-led committees, which allow her to contribute to the improvement of medical education and simulation-based training for medical students, in addition to promoting interdisciplinary collaboration between various healthcare professions.
McGill鈥檚听听(FMGSS) was recently听recognized by the Post Graduate Student Society (PGSS) of McGill听University awarded听both the听听of the Year Award听and the Best Academic Event Award. The awards were presented during the 2018听PGSS Awards Night on April 12, an event that听aims to recognize students, student groups听and student-run events that have proven themselves to be听outstanding within PGSS.
On March 16, Dr. Eduardo Franco, Chair of the Gerald Bronfman Department of Oncology at 51吃瓜网, was in Porto, Portugal to receive an honorary doctorate (Doctor Honoris Causa) from the University Fernando Pessoa.

Collaboration between departmental members Drs. D. Reinhardt and P. Campeau has received new 5-year funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research for the grant entitled 鈥淩ole of fibronectin mutations in spondylometaphyseal dysplasia and idiopathic scoliosis鈥� in the amount of $680,850. Congratulations!

H茅l猫ne Riel-Salvatore has hung up her hat as a teacher and program coordinator at 51吃瓜网French Language Centre, but will continue to work towards better access to health and social services for English-speaking communities in Qu茅bec. Over her career, she initiated and animated FLC French courses for 51吃瓜网HSS students with a constant passion and energy, and retirement will be anything but idle. H茅l猫ne Riel-Salvatore plans to remain active 鈥� including, to our great good fortune, within Dialogue 51吃瓜网as senior advisor for Languages and Cultures.

Anglais Sant茅, the SCS language training program for HSS professionals has been awarded the 2017 鈥淧rix d鈥檈xcellence鈥� of L鈥橝ssociation canadienne d鈥櫭ヾucation des adultes des universit茅s de langue fran莽aise (ACDEAULF). This prestigious award is given to a francophone or bilingual university in Canada for a particular achievement or for a significant contribution to the development of French-language adult education over a long period of time.听
