Graduate Studies

Introduction

Our department places high priority on research and on maintaining a distinguished graduate program. Each year, we admit a small number of highly qualified applicants for studies leading to the MA and PhD degrees in Anthropology. These students benefit from a lively and nurturing intellectual environment, close supervision by our faculty members and a diverse and vibrant student cohort in one of North America’s most unique and exciting cities. For our thesis degrees, students interested in applying should, commensurate to their level of study, propose a robust, feasible, and timely anthropological research project and they should be able to articulate how it fits with departmental strengths and the research interests of potential supervisors and committee members.

Graduate students in the department have the opportunity to collaborate with research centers such as , the , STANDD, CICADA and I-CAN. Students in our department also benefit from an interdisciplinary environment that fosters conversations and collaborations with other research centers at 51³Ô¹ÏÍøsuch as Social Studies of Medicine, the Division of Social and Transcultural Psychiatry, the Institute for Gender, Sexuality and Feminist Studies, the Institute for the Study of International Development, the 51³Ô¹ÏÍøSchool of the Environment, Art History and Communication Studies, the Institute of Islamic Studies, the Wolfe Chair in Scientific and Technological Literacy, and the School of Religious Studies.
