The Department of Surgery was honored to host the Wisconsin Travelling Surgeons Club as part of their Canadian hospital tour. This esteemed group of general and thoracic surgeons was welcomed by Dr. Liane S. Feldman, who provided an insightful presentation on the opportunities and challenges within the Quebec healthcare system and shared the Department’s vision for advancing surgical care. Dr. Jake Barralet followed with an engaging overview of the Department’s surgical innovation program, highlighting its commitment to fostering groundbreaking research and development.

As part of the visit, Martin Couillard led an in-depth tour of the’s state-of-the-art laboratory spaces, where guests were introduced to innovative startup projects such as (Amir Hooshiar and Amir Sayadi), (Ehsan Sobhani) and (Jer Abitbol). These demonstrations showcased how cutting-edge technologies are being developed to transform surgical practices and improve patient outcomes.

The itinerary also included visits to several key 51³Ô¹ÏÍø research programs and centers of excellence. Guests explored the Surgical Performance Enhancement and Robotics Centre (), where advanced robotic systems are enhancing surgical precision, as well as the Steinberg Centre for Simulation and Interactive Learning, led by Dr. Gerald Fried, which is dedicated to training the next generation of healthcare professionals through immersive simulation-based education. Additionally, participants had the opportunity to learn about McGill’s Residency Program from Dr. Paola Fata and gain insights into ongoing cancer research initiatives spearheaded by Dr. Jonathan Cools-Lartigue.
