Winter 2026 Course Lectureship Opportunities

Salary: $11 479 /course (including vacation pay).

The Department of Sociology is inviting applications to teach courses in winter 2026. Please complete the online application form and upload a CV and cover letter. The cover letter should contain the following information:

  • Area examinations completed along with date of completion
  • Previous TA or course lecturer experience for the course(s) for which you are applying

Applications will be ranked according to the collective agreement between 51³Ô¹ÏÍø and the MCLIU. Preference will be given to the qualified applicant with the most priority points. 51³Ô¹ÏÍø is committed to equity in employment and diversity. SOCI 230 – Sociology of Ethnic Relations.
An introduction to the sociological study of minority groups in Canada. The course will explore the themes of racism, prejudice, and discrimination, ethnic and racial inequalities, cultural identities, multiculturalism, immigration. Theoretical, empirical, and policy issues will be discussed. While the focus will be primarily on Canada, comparisons will be made with the United States.

January 5 – April 14, 2026: Tuesday & Thursday (2:35 – 3:55 pm)
Location: Arts W-120

Teaching Qualification Requirements:
Education: PhD or be ABD in Sociology
Experience: Successful completion of area exam in Nationalism, Race/Ethnicity and International Migration within the last fi ve years and/or prior experience as a teaching assistant for SOCI 230.

SOCI 235 – Technology and Society
An examination of the extent to which technological developments impose constraints on ways of arranging social relationships in bureaucratic organizations and in the wider society: the compatibility of current social structures with the effective utilization of technology.

Location: Macdonald-Harrington Building room G-10

Teaching Qualification Requirements:
Education: PhD or be ABD in Sociology
Experience: Successful completion of area exam in Work, Labor Markets and the Economy within the last fi ve years and/or prior experience as a teaching assistant for SOCI 235.
