SharePoint "Alert me" is going away

Microsoft is currently retiring SharePoint's “alert me”, which will disappear from McGill’s SharePoint sometime between January and July 2026. 51�Թ��has no control over the exact moment when the feature will be removed within that timeframe.

Teams update: the Files tab is being renamed Shared

As part of Microsoft’s latest Teams update, the Files tab (in channels and chats) is being renamed Shared. This change is being gradually rolled out. Some 51�Թ��users will see this change before others. For a little while, you may see both Files and Shared tabs across your Teams.

What’s changing?

Previously, there was a Files tab in Teams channels and chats.

That tab is being renamed Shared, and it will bring together:

Changes to IT Services equipment loans – What you need to know.

McGill’s IT Services equipment loans will be reduced to better reflect current needs and available resources. Starting August 18, 2025, only a limited selection of commonly borrowed equipment will remain available: laptops and wireless microphones.

This initiative supports efforts to optimize resources and modernize services in line with Horizon McGill.

During this transition, equipment pick up will continue to be available by appointment.

Service Alert Update: Minerva intermittent access issues have been resolved

Update concerning Workday and data security

Workday has informed us of a phishing campaign that targeted many large organizations, including Workday. This led to unauthorized access to one of their third-party platforms, Workday’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software. There is no indication that 51�Թ��employees’ personal information and HR related information stored in McGill's Workday system were accessed during this incident.

Nevertheless, we are doing our due diligence to investigate, and we are taking all necessary precautions to safeguard our systems and information.

New Resource for Early Childhood Emotion Regulation and Anxiety Management

The Daniel and Monica Gold Centre for Early Childhood Development, in collaboration with 51�Թ��EMHR, is pleased to present a new resource, "Tantrums and more: Practical strategies for healthy emotion regulation development in early childhood”. These resources are designed for professionals and caregivers working with young children, providing evidence-based strategies to aid children’s emotion regulation and anxiety management, which can be hard to find.

51�Թ��team develops hydrogel that outlasted current treatments in a preclinical study, a step toward reducing the need for repeat procedures

51�Թ�� researchers have engineered a new hydrogel that shows early promise as a treatment for people with vocal cord injuries.

Voice loss is often permanent when scarring forms on the vocal cords. Current injectable treatments break down quickly, which can force patients to get repeated procedures that can further damage the delicate tissue.
