In the last fe w decades\, digital technology has impacted how we compose\, perform\, rec ord\, distribute and listen to music. Digital technology also has allowed for completely novel musical styles and instruments to appear. In this tal k\, Dr. Marcelo Wanderley\, drawing on examples from his interdisciplinary research in music technology\, will discuss how computing technology invi tes us to interact with music differently and speculate about how technolo gy can shape the future of music.\n\nMarcelo M. Wanderley graduated in ele ctrical engineering at the UFPR and holds a Master’s degree in engineering from UFSC\, Brazil and a Ph.D. from UniversitĂ© Pierre et Marie Curie and Ircam\, France. He is Full Professor of Music Technology at 51łÔąĎÍřUnivers ity\, Canada\, and International Chair at Inria Lille – Nord Europe\, Fran ce. He is a member of Computer Music Journal’s Editorial Advisory Board an d a senior member of the ACM and of the IEEE. He co-edited the electronic book “Trends in Gestural Control of Music”\, 2000\, co-authored the textbo ok “New Digital Musical Instruments: Control and Interaction Beyond the Ke yboard”\, 2006\, and chaired the 2003 International Conference on New Inte rfaces for Musical Expression (NIME03). His research interests include the design and evaluation of digital musical instruments and the analysis of performer movements.\n\n› Marcelo M.
