In this work, they report a functional role for myostatin as an endocrine hormone that directly promotes pituitary follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) synthesis and thereby ovarian function in mice. Previously, this FSH-stimulating role was attributed to other members of the transforming growth factor-β family, the activins. Their results both challenge activin's eponymous role in FSH synthesis and establish an unexpected endocrine axis between skeletal muscle and the pituitary gland.
Thu, 20 Mar 2025 17:56:32 +0000 admin 2164 at /sbms Prof. Sirui Zhou receives 2025 Banting Discovery Award for groundbreaking EDS research /sbms/channels/news/prof-sirui-zhou-receives-2025-banting-discovery-award-groundbreaking-eds-research-365613
Congratulations to Prof. Sirui Zhou, Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Genetics, who has been awarded the 2025 Banting Discovery Foundation’s prestigious Discovery Award. This competitive 2-yr $40,000 award was given to 11 exceptional doctoral trainees across Canada working on Parkinson’s disease. Sabrina’s project aims to elucidate the mechanism of PINK1 activation on damaged mitochondria via interactions with the translocation machinery. Her work will help us understand how Parkinson-associated genetic variants impair PINK1’s function.
Mon, 17 Mar 2025 13:58:26 +0000 admin 2157 at /sbms GCI Partner Expo /sbms/channels/event/gci-partner-expo-365631 Thu, 05 Jun 2025 16:51:34 +0000 amanda.perozzo@mcgill.ca 2126 at /sbms 15th Annual Hands-On Workshop in 3D Printing & Microfluidics for Bioengineering /sbms/channels/event/15th-annual-hands-workshop-3d-printing-microfluidics-bioengineering-365339
Registration required (Deadline: May 22)

https://juncker.lab.mcgill.ca/workshop
&;&;&;/&; Thu, 08 May 2025 20:11:23 +0000 jinglan.zhang@mcgill.ca 2093 at /sbms Emerging Topics in Health (EToH) Seminar Series "Probing the design and control principles of vascular growth and scaling" /sbms/channels/event/emerging-topics-health-etoh-seminar-series-probing-design-and-control-principles-vascular-growth-and-365338
Yogesh Goyal, PhD (Assistant Professor, Northwestern University / Investigator, Chan Zuckerberg Biohub)
&;&;&;/&; Thu, 08 May 2025 20:04:05 +0000 jinglan.zhang@mcgill.ca 2092 at /sbms 9th Annual PHIL GOLD DISTINGUISHED LECTURE (hosted by the GCI and the EToH Seminar Series) /sbms/channels/event/9th-annual-phil-gold-distinguished-lecture-hosted-gci-and-etoh-seminar-series-365337
Title of his talk: “γδ T cell biology: extending immunotherapy to more cancers and to more patients”
Thu, 08 May 2025 19:54:27 +0000 jinglan.zhang@mcgill.ca 2091 at /sbms Emerging Topics in Health (EToH) Seminar Series “Interactions Between Developing Microbiomes and Immune Responses” /sbms/channels/event/emerging-topics-health-etoh-seminar-series-interactions-between-developing-microbiomes-and-immune-364929 &;&;&;/&;
Speaker: Tim Hand, PhD

Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Immunology and Microbiology; University of Pittsburgh

Date: Wednesday, April 30, 2025, @ 15:30
Thu, 10 Apr 2025 19:34:08 +0000 jinglan.zhang@mcgill.ca 1996 at /sbms Cancer Translational Research Horizons 2025 /sbms/channels/event/cancer-translational-research-horizons-2025-364942
The CTR Horizons highlights the forefront of health technology and the latest healthcare innovations.

CTR Horizons will be a great opportunity to:
Fri, 11 Apr 2025 16:00:30 +0000 jinglan.zhang@mcgill.ca 2004 at /sbms The Future of Medicine: Beyond mRNA vaccines /sbms/channels/event/future-medicine-beyond-mrna-vaccines-348383
COVID-19 vaccines introduced RNA treatments to the world, showing they were safe and effective.
