The conference invites us to see the connection between religion and medicine not as an i nconvenient deviance of past societies\, let alone as a necessarily advers arial relationship\, but as a key phenomenon that enlightens a given socie ty’s conceptions of the mind and the body\, and how the society negotiates these competing conceptions. The connection between medical and spiritual practices took many forms over the centuries\, from the pious provision o f health care (in person or through endowed charity)\, to the archetypal f igure of the healing prophet. Yet despite decades of specialized research\ , a coherent and analytical history of the 'angelical conjunction' itself remains elusive.\n\nTaking an inter-cultural and long-term perspective\, A ngelical Conjunctions investigates how Islamic\, Christian\, and Jewish tr aditions interpreted\, produced\, and shaped medical knowledge. We aim to develop methodological and theoretical perspectives on the 'angelical conj unction(s)' of these two spheres.\n\n \n\nKeynote Event April 12th\, 2019 - Prof. Lauren Kassell\n\n‘Universal Medicine’: Lessons from Seventeenth C entury England\n\n51³Ô¹ÏÍøDepartment of Rare Books & Special Collections\n \nMcLennan Library Building 4th Floor - 3459 McTavish Street\n\nEvent Time : 4:30pm to 7:00pm\n\n \n\nThe keynote lecture will be followed by an exhi bition of rare books from the collection of the Osler Library of the Histo ry of Medicine\n DTSTART:20190412T083000Z DTEND:20190414T200000Z LOCATION:Birks Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 2A7\, 3520 rue Universit y SUMMARY:CREOR sponsored event: Angelical Conjunctions: Crossroads of Medici ne and Religion\, 1200–1800 URL:/religiousstudies/channels/event/creor-sponsored-e vent-angelical-conjunctions-crossroads-medicine-and-religion-1200-1800-295 776 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
