Fairhall ( University of Washington)\n Tuesday November 28\, 12-1pm\n Zoom Link: https: //mcgill.zoom.us/j/86855481591\n In Person: 550 Sherbrooke\, Room 189\n \n Ab stract: The small fresh-water cnidarian Hydra is a fascinating model organ ism for neuroscience. It is transparent\; new genetic lines allow one to i mage activity in both neurons and muscle cells\; it exhibits a quite rich suite of behaviors\; and it continually rebuilds itself. Hydra’s fairly si mple physical structure as a two-layered fluid-filled hydrostat and the ac cessibility of information about neural and muscle activity open the possi bility of a complete model of neural control of behavior. We have develope d a biophysical and biomechanical model of Hydra's muscles and body that a llows us to transform measured neural activity into behavior\, and a neura l model that proposes a mechanism driving its contractile oscillations.\n DTSTART:20231128T170000Z DTEND:20231128T180000Z SUMMARY:QLS Seminar Series - Adrienne L.
