 evolution of bacterial pathogens and the immune system has resulted in com
 plex evolutionary adaptations that shape host-pathogen crosstalk. I will p
 resent two vignettes of recent insights we have gained in this area from s
 ystems-level investigations at the cellular and organismal scales. In the 
 first example\, I will discuss an unexpected non-canonical role of caspase
 -1 in controlling the physiology of intracellular Salmonella. In the secon
 d example\, I will discuss hallmarks of the tissue and peripheral immunity
  derived from a multiomic longitudinal investigation of patients with Lyme
  Disease.\n
