Tony Mittermaier appointed Interim Deputy Provost (Student Life & Learning

Dear members of the 51³Ô¹ÏÍøcommunity,

Last month, the President and Vice-Chancellor announced the appointment of Professor Angela Campbell as Provost and Executive Vice-President (Academic). I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Professor Campbell, and my sincere gratitude for her extensive contributions as Interim Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning).

It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Professor Tony Mittermaier as Interim Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning). His term will begin on February 1, 2026, and will continue until the appointment of a new Deputy Provost (SLL). In the meantime, he will also continue in his current role of Dean of Students.

Professor Mittermaier joined 51³Ô¹ÏÍøin 2005 and is a Full Professor in the Department of Chemistry. He has served as Dean of Students since 2024 and previously as Associate Dean (Student Affairs) in the Faculty of Science beginning in 2020. Throughout his mandate, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to fostering student success and wellbeing across the 51³Ô¹ÏÍøcommunity.

I would like to thank Professor Mittermaier for taking on this new responsibility. I look forward to working with him as he continues to make a lasting impact on student life at McGill.

In accordance with University Statutes, the Secretary-General will establish an Advisory Committee for the selection of a new Deputy Provost. Further information regarding the position, as well as the nomination and application processes, will be shared in due course.
