Yet little is k nown of how the PFC encodes social information. I will present our work on the representation of social stimuli in the prefrontal cortex of mice\, a nd show that both the preference for social odors and the experience-depen dent refinement of social odor representations are impaired in a genetic m ouse model of autism.\n\nThe PFC is embedded in multiple brain-wide networ ks regulating behavior. Dissecting the contribution of such long-range syn aptic interactions between distant circuits requires techniques for select ively manipulating these connections. We have previously shown that common ly used inhibitory optogenetic tools are inappropriate for silencing presy naptic terminals\, due to the unique biophysical properties of this cellul ar compartment. We have now developed a new approach for silencing presyna ptic neurotransmitter release using a unique invertebrate rhodopsin that s electively couples to the Gi/o signaling pathway and acts to suppress syna ptic transmission in vitro and in vivo. I will describe the engineering of this tool and its application in behaving mice.\n\nThis seminar will be g iven online via Zoom.\n DTSTART:20200529T150000Z DTEND:20200529T160000Z LOCATION:via Zoom\, McIntyre Medical Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3G 1Y 6\, 3655 promenade Sir William Osler SUMMARY:Online Seminar - Prefrontal representation of social information an d a new optogenetic approach for dissecting long-range neural communicatio n URL:/physiology/channels/event/online-seminar-prefront al-representation-social-information-and-new-optogenetic-approach-dissecti ng-321888 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
