From May through August, administrative staff in the Satoko Shibata Clinical Nursing Laboratories and in the Nursing Student Affairs Office participated in McGill’s Staff Community Gardens project, located on the main downtown campus next to Burnside Hall.

New online course provides wealth of teaching strategies for clinical educators

This fall, for the first time in its history, the Ingram School of Nursing (ISoN) is offering an online, accredited course designed to foster excellence in clinical teaching. “The reality of nursing is we’re taught to nurse, not to teach. Most of us in the nursing field become excellent nurses. But that doesn’t mean we know how to transmit our knowledge,” explains Faculty Lecturer Catherine Ricci, who co-led this project with Tania Perron, Academic Associate with the School’s Clinical Partnership Office.

To say that it has been a whirlwind two years for Guillaume Fontaine, RN, PhD, would be an understatement. Since he assumed his appointment as a tenure track researcher and Assistant Professor at the Ingram School of Nursing (ISoN) in August 2023, he has established an implementation science research group called the RISE3 Lab, secured three CIHR grants in the amount of $1.4 million, developed a new online digital health course, organized a seminar series, and authored or co-authored 28 peer-reviewed articles as well as policy papers.

The energy and excitement were palpable as first-year undergraduate and graduate students in all programs gathered for Orientation events. In-person sessions for graduate students were held at the Ingram School of Nursing while Bachelor of Science in Nursing students and those in the On Campus stream of the Bachelor of Nursing Integrated program (BNI) met at The Neuro’s Jeanne Timmins Amphitheatre. A virtual orientation session was held for the Bachelor of Nursing Integrated Online stream.

Access to respite services for caregivers increases the probability of dying at home by 2.7 times, according to an evaluative study by 51�Թ�� researcher Kelley Kilpatrick and her team. Titled “Factors that support home deaths for patients receiving at-home palliative and end-of-life care: a sequential mixed-methods explanatory study”, the paper was published in BMC Palliative Care.

Vascular Access Student Club wins national awards

The Ingram School of Nursing’s Vascular Access Student Club (VASC) team of talented executives and dedicated faculty advisors scored big at the 2025 National Canadian Vascular Access Association (CVAA) Conference held in PEI in May. The team was awarded 2nd place overall for their ultrasound-guided PIV insertion poster and won the People’s Choice Award for their student-led influenza vaccination clinic poster.

The section on advanced practice nursing In the World Health Organization’s recently released State of the World’s Nursing 2025 Report was informed in part by research conducted by Associate Professor Kelley Kilpatrick. Prof. Kilpatrick holds the Susan E. French Chair in Nursing Research and Innovative Practice at the Ingram School of Nursing, and is a researcher at the Centre de recherche de l'Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont, part of the CIUSSS de l'Est-de-l'Île-de-Montréal.
