However\, some people lose this muscle aton ia and start acting out their dreams\, a parasomnia called REM sleep behav ior disorder (RBD). RBD is recognized as a strong marker of an incipient s ynucleinopathy\, with the vast majority of patients developing dementia wi th Lewy bodies or Parkinson’s disease. In this talk\, I will highlight my research work in the field of brain imaging and computational neuroscience in isolated RBD. Specifically\, this talk will dive into the prodromal br ain changes associated with isolated RBD and focus on how observations of brain atrophy can be used to predict disease progression and uncover some of the mechanistic bases of neurodegeneration in synucleinopathies.\n\nBio : Shady Rahayel is a postdoctoral researcher specialized in brain imaging\ , sleep\, and neurodegenerative disorders. After a first postdoctoral trai ning in molecular imaging at the University of Montreal\, he is now a post doctoral researcher at The Neuro in the lab of Alain Dagher working on RBD and brain imaging. Shady was also trained as a neuropsychologist speciali zed in geriatrics and currently practices as a clinical sleep psychologist . In 2023\, he will officially start his own lab at the Center for Advance d Research in Sleep Medicine and at the Department of Medicine of the Univ ersity of Montreal\, focusing on brain imaging and sleep disorders.\n\n\nT he Feindel Virtual Brain and Mind (VBM) Seminar Series will advance the vi sion of Dr. William Feindel (1918–2014)\, Former Director of the Neuro (19 72–1984)\, to constantly bridge the clinical and research realms. The talk s will highlight the latest advances and discoveries in neuropsychology\, cognitive neuroscience\, and neuroimaging.\n\nSpeakers will include scient ists from across The Neuro\, as well as colleagues and collaborators local ly and from around the world. The series is intended to provide a virtual forum for scientists and trainees to continue to foster interdisciplinary exchanges on the mechanisms\, diagnosis and treatment of brain and cogniti ve disorders.\n\n\nTo watch via Vimeo\, click here.\n\n** Refreshments wil l be served\n DTSTART:20221026T200000Z DTEND:20221026T210000Z LOCATION:De Grandpre Communications Center\, Montreal Neurological Institut e\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 2B4\, 3801 rue University SUMMARY:Feindel Brain and Mind Lecture Series: REM sleep behavior disorder: A window into early neurodegeneration URL:/neuro/channels/event/feindel-brain-and-mind-lectu re-series-rem-sleep-behavior-disorder-window-early-neurodegeneration-34238 2 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
