Treatment of cli nical progression remains challenging due to lack of insights into pathway s that determine neuronal vulnerability to inflammation. Although inflamma tory relapses can be effectively suppressed by immunomodulatory therapies\ , patients suffer from ongoing neurodegeneration with highly variable dise ase progression. Here I will explore the pathomechanisms of inflammation-i nduced neurodegeneration and how to translate these findings into potentia l drug treatments.\n\nBio: Manuel A. Friese studied medicine at the Univer sities of Hamburg\, Oxford and University College London and received his MD in 2001. He completed his neurology training at the Universities of Tüb ingen and Hamburg. After his postdoctoral training at the University of Ox ford from 2004––2008\, he started his laboratory as an Emmy Noether resear ch fellow of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft at the University of Hamb urg. Since 2013 he has been consultant neurologist and Professor of Neuroi mmunology at the University of Hamburg and since 2014 director of the INIM S. His laboratory focuses on inflammatory and neurodegenerative aspects of neuroimmunological and neuroinfectious diseases.\n\n\nSupported by the ge nerosity of the Killam Trusts \, The Neuro’s Killam Seminar series hosts o utstanding guest speakers whose research is of interest to the scientific community at The Neuro and 51³Ô¹ÏÍø.\n DTSTART:20211214T210000Z DTEND:20211214T220000Z SUMMARY:Killam Seminar Series presents 'Disentangling neurodegeneration in multiple sclerosis' URL:/neuro/channels/event/killam-seminar-series-presen ts-disentangling-neurodegeneration-multiple-sclerosis-335172 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
