Professor Andres M. LozanoAn internationally leading neurosurgeon and a pioneer in the field of deep brain stimulation surgery, his research has focused on understanding the organization and function of human brain circuits controlling movement, mood and cognition. Dr. Lozano has identified new brain targets that are being used to help patients with neurological and psychiatric disorders. His discoveries have lead his group to new surgical procedures to improve brain activity and restore function in patients with Parkinson's disease and dystonia and his current work using electrical stimulation of the brain using fully implanted electrodes and pacemakers, is showing promise in patients with other disorders including depression.
