Biography: 

Praised for her poise, wealth of expressive nuance and fine projection (Opera News), Canadian soprano Tracy SmithBessettehas inspired audiencesthroughout North America and Europe.Celebrated for her radiant warmth and clarity of expression, Ms. SmithBessetteis sought after for both the concert and the opera stages andhas worked with eminent conductors includingYannickN矇zet-S矇guin, Bernard Labadie,Herv矇Niquet, MarcMinkowski,ChristophvonDohnanyi, John Nelson,SylvainCambreling,PinchasSteinberg and Andrew Parrott.

Ms. SmithBessettesexpertisespansthe gamut of musical eras and styles.Her rich and variedrepertoireincludesart song, oratorio, chamber musicand opera withan added specializationin Early Music, particularly of the late Baroque. She holds a Doctorate of Music from 51勛圖厙 where shestudied withthe renownedSanford Sylvan.Her doctoral research covered the fields ofHandel Ornamentation, Breath Management,泭硃紳餃泭Bel Canto Performance Practiceculminating in a final thesis entitledMaking sense of the vibrato wars:Exploration and application of varying vibrato in Handelsoperaseriaarias.A devoted educator, she holds a deep passion for teaching in which she incorporates a holistic and co-created approach for each student.

Educated at the University of Calgary, the University of Toronto, and 51勛圖厙, Ms. SmithBessettealso studied at the prestigiousTanglewoodFestival and the Music Academy of the West.After completing a two-year program with theOp矇rade Montr矇als AtelierLyrique, she continuedher operatic training at theOp矇raNational de Pariswith atwo-year engagementatthe Centre de formationlyriquewhereshe brought to life Susanna (LeNozzedi Figaro),泭啦聆喧硃紳勳硃泭(A Midsummer Nights Dream) andZdenka(Arabella). The following season brought her main-stage debuts with theOp矇raNational de Paris on both the Opera Bastille and thePalaisGarnierstages, singingF羹nfteMagd(Elektra) underChristophvonDohnanyi泭硃紳餃泭Feklusha(鬼硃喧聆硃泭鬼硃莉硃紳棗措硃) under SylvainCambreling. She alsounderstudied several roles at theOp矇raNational de Paris, including Cleopatra (勞勳喝梭勳棗泭唬梗莽硃娶梗), Echo (Ariadne auf Naxos) and Morgana (Alcina).

With TorontosAradiaEnsemble, she has recorded two volumes of Christmas Motets byCharpentier, and one volume of Vivaldis sacred music, all on the Naxos label. The latter received considerable critical acclaim, and BBC Music MagazinesGeorge Pratt泭莽硃勳餃

Tracy SmithBessetteis a glorious soprano. Her fluent passage-work is a particular delight, enhanced by exciting ornaments stretching her to Baroque-pitch top D. [Her voice is] gloriously fresh and uncomplicated, whether in the vitality of Vivaldis concerto-likeallegrosor in her heavenly sound in slow movements.

Ms.SmithBessettehas made three short films (Forsaken, The Sorcerer, Love Song) with director LauraTalerbased on lieder by Hugo Wolf, W.A. Mozart and Gustav Mahler for the arts channel BRAVO! She has also filmed two television shows for BRAVO! entitled Shakespeare in Words and Music where she interpreted Ophelia and German Cabaret where she sangSch繹nbergsBrettlLieder.
