Her research focuses on optimizing the surface modification and functionalization of inert materials o improve t heir integration into calcium silicate cements. Her presentation explores how mechanical testing techniques complement other characterization techni ques to help us better understand the composition and function of biologic al tissues\, advance diseases cure research\, and help us develop more com petent biomaterials.\n\nMATTHEW S. TARLING: Using Electron Backscatter Dif fraction (EBSD) to Reveal the Microstructure and Crystallography of Deform ed Geomaterials\n\nMatthew S. Tarling is a postdoc in the Department of Ea rth and Planetary Sciences at McGill\, working with Profs Christie Rowe an d Jamie Kirkpatrick. He will be joining UBC as an assistant professor in A ugust. He completed his PhD in 2019 at the University of Otago. His resear ch focuses on how rocks in the interior of the planet break and deform acr oss a wide range of temporal and spatial scales\, from near instantaneous devasting earthquakes to the imperceptible motion of tectonic plates over millions of years. In this presentation\, he will discuss how electron bac kscatter diffraction (EBSD)\, an electron microscopy technique\, is utilis ed in Earth Sciences to uncover the microstructure and crystallography of rocks and reveal insights into the deformation processes of geomaterials. \n DTSTART:20240325T160000Z DTEND:20240325T170000Z LOCATION:Engine\, Room 5\, Adams Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0E8\, 3450 rue University SUMMARY:MIAM Characterization Seminar: Biomaterials and Geomaterials URL:/miam/biomaterials-geomaterials END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
