This concept is embedded in a pu blic health commitment to understanding and addressing the loneliness and isolation caused by grief. The goal of grief literacy is to empower indivi duals\, networks and communities to support the bereaved among us with eve ryday acts of kindness and compassion. For greater grief literacy\, change needs to occur at all levels. While certainly some bereaved people need p rofessional support\, for many a salient social response is community-base d acknowledgment and validation. \n\nThis event will be led by two origina tors of the Grief Literacy concept.\n\nMary Ellen Macdonald\, PhD\n Associa te Professor\, Faculty of Dentistry\n 51³Ô¹ÏÍø\n\nProfessor Mary E llen Macdonald will provide an overview of Grief Literacy\, its recent dev elopment by an international team of grief scholars\, and its relationship to public health palliative care.\n\nSusan Cadell\, PhD\, RSW\n Professor\ , School of Social Work\n Renison University College\, University of Waterl oo\n\nProfessor Susan Cadell will operationalize the concept of Grief Lite racy by providing vignettes that can be used for education and practice.
