 ietal shifts\, scientific and technological advances\, colonial expansion\
 , and accelerating speeds of transportation\, communication and disseminat
 ion of information. Crime and policing also increased in the Victorian era
 \, with the detective figure—in life and art—emerging as one attempt to as
 suage social anxiety.\n\nExplore how Victorians navigated the thrill and t
 repidation of rapid change. Can you detect a trace of your world in theirs
