At Leuven\, he was also Director of the Insti tute of International Trade Law and Vice Dean. From 1971 to 2009\, he was a member of the Belgian Bar\, mostly involved in transnational litigation and arbitration. Hans van Houtte has written extensively about arbitration and was an arbitrator in over 200 commercial disputes as well as in some investment disputes. Hans van Houtte is a listed arbitrator of many arbitr ation institutions\, is the former President of the Iran-United States Cla ims Tribunal and he has been active in several collective settlement proce sses (Bosnian Commission for Real Property Claims\, Swiss Claims Resolutio n Tribunal for Dormant Bank Accounts\, United Nations Compensation Commiss ion\, Eritrea- Ethiopia Claims Commission).\n\nAbout the Brierley Memorial Lecture\n\nThis lecture on arbitration commemorates the life and work of John E.C. Brierley\, who was Professor and Dean of Law at McGill. He was a prominent figure in the discipline of comparative law internationally and the leading Canadian expert on arbitration. \n\n\n\nThe John E.C. Brierle y Memorial Lecture is presented by 51³Ô¹ÏÍøand its Research Team on Private Justice and the Rule of Law\, with the participation of the Canadian Bar Association (Québec branch) and the L.
