R v RDS is a lea ding Supreme Court of Canada decision on establishing the rules for determ ining reasonable apprehension of bias in the court system by judges\, and establishing limits to the application of social context in judging.  A bout the speaker Lawyer\, Human Rights and Anti-Racist Educator\, Dr. Esm eralda Thornhill is a Full Professor of Law at Dalhousie University. From 1996-2002\, she was the first holder of the James Robinson Johnston Endowe d Chair in Black Canadian Studies at Dalhousie University\, a national ini tiative to “bring Black culture\, reality\, and perspectives into the Acad emy.” Her expertise and writings on ‘race’ are recognized both nationally and internationally by academics and policy-makers alike such as the Unite d Nations and UNESCO and institutions of higher of learning including Univ ersity of West Indies (Barbados\, Trinidad)\, McGill\, Concordia\, UBC\, W indsor\, Western Ontario\, Temple\, Cheyney\, UNC (Chapel Hill)\, Wellesle y\, Hamilton College and Central Connecticut State where she has lectured.
