 u Dr. Pittman Potter\, Canada's leading expert in Chinese law. His present
 ation will focus on what the recent Bo Xilai case represents for China and
  foreigners interested in operating in China. Dr. Potter will discuss corr
 uption risk management\, network management\, and the challenges of establ
 ishing partnerships in China. Dr. Potter will provide clarity on what peop
 le need to know about doing business in China\, in regards to protecting t
 hemselves legally\, handling negotiations and government relations. Refres
 hments will be served.  About the speaker  Pitman Potter is a Professor of
  Law at UBC Law Faculty and HSBC Chair in Asian Research at UBC's Institut
 e of Asian Research. Professor Potter's teaching and research are focused 
 on PRC and Taiwan law and policy in the areas of foreign trade and investm
 ent\, dispute resolution\, intellectual property\, contracts\, business re
 gulation\, and human rights.  Professor Potter has served on numerous jour
 nal editorial boards. He has published several books\, including most rece
 ntly A Guide to Business Law in Asia (w/ Ljiljana Biukovic\, Lexis/Nexis 2
 008)\, as well as numerous book chapters and articles for such journals as
  Law & Social Inquiry\, The China Quarterly\, and The International Journa
 l.  In addition to his academic activities\, Professor Potter is admitted 
 to the practice of law in British Columbia\, Washington and California\, a
 nd serves as a consultant to the Canadian national law firm of Borden Ladn
 er Gervais LLP. As a Chartered Arbitrator\, Professor Potter is engaged in
  international trade arbitration work involving China. He has served on th
 e Board of Directors of several public institutions\, Asia Pacific Foundat
 ion of Canada\, and the Canada China Business Council.  Additional informa
