The impact of these rulings was a union campaign within the National University of Ireland Ga lway pushing for gender equality within that institution\, but also within the University sector more broadly.  This campaign ultimately resulted in a Government appointed Expert Group “HEA National Review of Gender Equali ty in Irish Higher Education Institutions” who reported in June of this ye ar.  Amongst the more significant recommendations are that any new Preside nt or Vice President of an Irish University must be able to show demonstra ble experience of advancing gender discrimination and the immediate introd uction of mandatory quotas for academic promotion. The focus of this talk is to provide a critical assessment of the initial cases\, the campaign th at followed and the resulting Higher Education Authorities recommendations . \n\nLa conférencière\n\n[en anglais seulement] Dr Shivaun Quinlivan is a lecturer at the School of Law\, NUI Galway\, where she teaches primarily in the area of Constitutional Law and Disability Law and Policy.
