 odified cells\, plants and animals. It is for this reason that the interpr
 etation of what constitutes patentable subject matter is under constant ev
 olution as new technologies are developed in the life sciences. Examples s
 hall be discussed of how the courts have interpreted such issues up to pre
 sent day\, in an effort to assess trends and the future of patenting in th
