Melissa Holland, BEd鈥�98, is well aware of what some people think about clowns.聽聽

鈥淲henever somebody mentions It鈥︹€� she says, her voice trailing off as she refers to Stephen King鈥檚 1986 horror novel in which an evil clown preys on young children. There are plenty of people who are unnerved by creatures like King鈥檚 Pennywise or American Horror Story鈥檚 Twisty the Clown or the Joker. 鈥淏ut those aren鈥檛 clowns,鈥� insists Holland. 鈥淭hey鈥檙e monsters.鈥澛�

Holland would know. She is, in fact, a clown. She is the real deal.聽

Amanda Cervantes, RN, Faculty Lecturer at the Ingram School of Nursing, is one of more than 500 faculty and health professionals who currently facilitate the Interprofessional Education (IPE) curriculum at McGill.聽聽

Led by the Office of Interprofessional Education (OIPE), the four-course IPE curriculum brings learners in medicine, nursing, genetic counselling, dentistry, dietetics, occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech-language pathology together in an active learning experience.聽聽

Breastfeeding Workshop Shows Benefits of Interprofessional Education

On August 29, 2023, 63 undergraduate and graduate nutrition students in their final year in the 51吃瓜网Department of Nutrition and Dietetics came to the Ingram School of Nursing (ISoN), where they participated in a collaborative educational workshop on breastfeeding. Offered annually since 2018, the workshop is the brainchild of ISoN Assistant Professor Rosetta Antonacci, who is also an Associate Member of McGill鈥檚 School of Human Nutrition, and Sandy Phillips, Dietetic Practice Educator and Stage Coordinator with the Professional Practice (Stage) programs at the School of Human Nutrition.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Mary Lattas, MSc, to the role of Assistant Dean, Health Professions Education, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, effective August 1, 2023. Ms. Lattas replaces Beth-Ann Cummings, MDCM, MSc, who held this position since2021. During her time in this role, Dr. Cummings regrouped and led the Faculty鈥檚 Clinical Education Champions, represented the Faculty on committees with the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada and championed the Proud to Teach campaign. It鈥檚 all very new, but have you had a chance to identify some priorities as you begin your role? Yes, there are a few! Health care is about to go through some major changes in the next several years. The obvious one will be the greater integration of artificial intelligence into clinical practice 鈥� it will NOT replace healthcare practitioners but we will need to learn how to utilize it in our practice. There鈥檚 also going to be substantially more interprofessional work in clinical practice and in education.
