Cooke Fellowship in Physical Education

Established in 2016 by J. Douglas Cooke BSc(PE) 1952 to support outstanding graduate students in the Faculty of Education entering the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education to pursue an MA in Physical and Health Education Pedagogy, Adapted Physical Activity or Sport and Exercise Psychology. .

Eligibility Awarded on the basis of academic merit by the Faculty of Education upon recommendation of the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education.

Daniel Q. Marisi Award

Established in 2005 by Mrs. Roberta Marisi, family, friends, and colleagues in memory of Dr. Daniel Q. Marisi, noted sports psychologist.

Eligibility Awarded by the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education to a graduate student (Master’s or Doctorate) in Sport or Exercise Psychology. All applicants must have been full-time students for at least two semesters at McGill. Criteria used to assess the award include: academic merit (current graduate GPA and undergraduate CGPA), conference attendance and presentations, research publications, and community (non-paid/volunteer) service in sport and exercise psychology.

David L. Montgomery Memorial Award

Established in 2007 by John Cleghorn, B.Com. 1962, and Pattie Cleghorn, Dip. Ed. 1962, as well as family, friends, colleagues, and former students in memory of noted sport and exercise physiologist Dr. David L. Montgomery. The award is also supported by the annual David L. Montgomery 10 Km Run, which takes place each year during Homecoming.

Eligibility Awarded by the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education to a graduate student in Sport and Exercise Physiology. All applicants must have been full-time students for at least one semester of the current year. Criteria used to assess the award are: academic merit (current GPA and undergraduate CGPA), conference presentations, and community service in sport and exercise physiology.

Hantho Fellowships

Established in 2025 by Monica Hantho, BEd 1981, and Mark Hantho, BCom 1981.

Eligibility Awarded annually by the Faculty of Education, on the basis of academic merit, to one or more outstanding women Master’s students entering or enrolled in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education who are pursuing research in sports science and optimizing the performance of women athletes, in collaboration with McGill’s Women in Sport (WiS) Program and the Sylvan Adams Sports Science Institute.

R.E. Wilkinson Award

Established by friends, colleagues and former students in honour of Prof. Robert E. Wilkinson, former Chairman of the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education.

Eligibility Awarded by the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education to a student who has obtained a B.Ed. (Major in Phys. Ed.) or a B.Sc. (Kinesiology) from 51³Ô¹ÏÍøand who is entering a fulltime graduate program in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education. Applicants will also be assessed based on academic merit and exceptional professional leadership.
