Based on a qualitative study conducted in Hong Kong and the Philippines between 2010 and 2018\, this talk expands current theorizations of global circuits by empirically revealing the asymmetries in the mobility of transnational pro fessionals and transnational low-wage workers. It demonstrates the emergen ce of “unbound and bound spheres of globalization” in which the formal cir cuits of professional expatriates and business travelers are indeed unboun d and global in scope while their low-wage counterparts in Asian global ci ties\, which includes Filipina sex workers\, are more than likely to only circulate within a bound “regional pocket of free travel” in Asia.\n DTSTART:20191112T200000Z DTEND:20191112T220000Z LOCATION:Seminar Room\, Peel 3487\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 1W7\, 3487 rue Peel SUMMARY:'Unbound and Bound Spheres of Globalization: Borders\, Markets\, an d Asymmetries in Global Mobility\,' a Lecture by Prof. Maria Hwang URL:/igsf/channels/event/unbound-and-bound-spheres-glo balization-borders-markets-and-asymmetries-global-mobility-lecture-prof-30 1419 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
