Good decisions require good data.

Horizon’s goal is to cut costs, generate revenue, decrease turnaround times, increase community satisfaction, and make 51³Ô¹ÏÍøa better place to work and study. Getting there will require change. And to ensure those changes are the right ones, we’re diving deep into McGill’s institutional data.

To help with this, we’ve joined dozens of institutions across Canada and beyond, as members of an international benchmarking program tailored specifically for universities. The program standardizes each university’s data (e.g. time/dollar expenditures on a given process, faculty/staff satisfaction with that process, procurement costs, etc.) and benchmarks this data against our peer institutions. The goal is to see what we’re doing well compared with others, what we’re doing less well, and where and what we can improve. Then, we’ll use that data to develop homegrown solutions that work for McGillians.

We’ll repeat this data-gathering and benchmarking process in 2026. If it proves a useful way to identify areas for improvement, we may continue in subsequent years as well.
