Abstract

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) impose major health and economic burden worldwide. This systematic review evaluated challenges (implementational/logistical/technological/supply-chain/laboratory-related) faced during multiplexed, point-of-care test deployment.

Abstract

Key populations are groups with unmet HIV prevention needs that put them at high risk of HIV acquisition and transmission. Male clients of female sex workers (CFSW) may contribute to HIV transmission through sexual relations with both female sex workers (FSW) and other partners.
/globalhealth/article/global-health-night-2020-projects-global-scope-global-health-programs-award-recipients/applications-technology-enhanced-trauma-training-lmics-scoping-review
Abstract

Lack of adequate trauma training is a major factor contributing to the burden of trauma-related mortality and morbidity in LMICs.

Medical education technologies present a unique opportunity to enhance the quality of trauma education in LMICs.

Trauma training courses can be adapted to LMICs by incorporating educational technologies that optimize learning outcomes, but also remain feasible to use with less resources.
Abstract
Background

Injury remains an important cause of death and disability globally, with 95% of all childhood injury deaths occurring in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs). Pediatric trauma training, tailored to the resources and settings in LMICs, represents an opportunity to improve such outcomes. We explored the nature of course offerings in pediatric trauma in resource-limited settings.
Wed, 04 Nov 2020 23:24:21 +0000Laura Pinkham; Minahil Khan; Fabio Bothelho; Elena Guadagno; Dan Poenaru2657 at /globalhealthNavigating the uncharted outbreak – spatio-temporal dynamics of the COVID-19 outbreak in the Amazon
/globalhealth/article/global-health-night-2020-americas-projects-global-scope-covid-19-indigenous-health/navigating-uncharted-outbreak-spatio-temporal-dynamics-covid-19-outbreak-amazon
Abstract
Highlights:

The first cluster was seen near Manaus, one of the most highly populated cities along the Amazon river. The next clusters were identified temporally along the Amazon river, suggesting that the spread of infection was mainly through travel along the river. Subsequent clusters were then seen in less populated areas. Clusters in Peru and Ecuador could have been due to different transmission dynamics, since only the part of the country included in the Amazon region was included for the analysis.
Wed, 04 Nov 2020 23:04:36 +0000Rajkrishna Ravikumar; Bo-young Yoon; Ana Riviere-Cinnamond; Jisoo Kim; Patricia Najera Hamrick2655 at /globalhealthExploring Perceptions and Use of Innovative Technologies in Disability-Focused Humanitarian Projects

Abstract

N.B. The malformations can be viewed in the PDF version of the poster.

Background:

Anorectal malformations (ARMs) are common congenital anomalies treated in various settings with or without intestinal diversion. While many ARM patients in high-income countries are treated with a one- or two-staged approach, the effectiveness of these approaches in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) is not clear.
Tue, 03 Nov 2020 22:40:20 +0000Joseph Sayegh; Felix Oyania; Elena Guadagno; Dan Poenaru2652 at /globalhealth
