This course is for you if you have basic knowledge of French.

You will learn to communicate in French in a variety of clinical settings, use foundational vocabulary and grammar appropriate to fieldwork, develop simple and effective communication strategies, and build confidence speaking in professional contexts.

This interactive course introduces various professional writing formats such as letters, memos, and case reports.You will learn to recognize and use different types of discourse—informative, narrative, prescriptive, argumentative, and hybrid—and strengthen your command of essential grammar, including verb tenses, pronouns, moods, and more.

This course focuses on oral communication skills needed to effectively interact with patients, clients, and colleagues. Through practical exercises, discussions, and role-plays, you'll develop vocabulary and sentence structures commonly used in professional settings.


Simulations based on real-life health and social work scenarios help build fluency. Listening skills are sharpened through video-based exercises followed by discussion and role-play de mises en situation.Ìý

If you're more comfortable speaking than writing in French, this course is for you. It helps you write clearly and correctly using appropriate grammar and vocabulary.


Using sample texts studied in class, you’ll practice writing similar documents, preparing you for professional written communication—and the OQLF exam.

OQLF Exam Workshop

  • Cost: Free for eligible participants
  • Prerequisites: Advanced intermediate level (B2), QUM8
  • Group size: Limited to 8 participants

In Quebec, members of professional orders must demonstrate adequate proficiency in French to practice their profession. This typically involves passing the French proficiency exam administered by the Office québécois de la langue française (OQLF).

In partnership with Dialogue McGill, the Centre for French Language Teaching (CEF) offers a free, two-part workshop to help you prepare for the OQLF exam.
