 schizophrenia has historically been regarded as a strange disease\, a perc
 eption linked to changing understandings of the brain.\n\nThis strangeness
  has affected how we think about schizophrenia’s causes and how we treat t
 hose afflicted. As growing research in the neurosciences has\n\nidentified
  schizophrenia as a disease of the brain\, we are on the cusp of a new era
  in which science trumps strangeness\, with promising possibilities for al
