The resurgence of syphilis and congenital syphilis in Canada exposes deep inequities in access to sexual health services and prenatal care. This talk traces a research program that bridges epidemiology and implementation science to scale equitable prevention across Ontario. Drawing on the CIHR-funded Syphilis Point-of-Care Rapid Test and Immediate Treatment Evaluation (SPRITE) study,ÌýSahar Saaed, PhD Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track), Department of Public Health Sciences, Queen’s University,Ìýwill illustrate how community-based outreach, co-designed with local public health units and implementation frameworks (PRISM/RE-AIM) have advanced testing and treatment among underserved populations. Complementary population-based analyses reveal barriers to timely prenatal syphilis screening and heterogeneity in policy uptake aimed at preventing congenital syphilis. Together, these studies demonstrate how a community-public health-academic partnership can create sustainable, equity-oriented models of care.
