This month, an article was published by the College of Family Physicians of Canada that reinforced what most of us already knew: there is no replacement for a family doctor! Specifically, the research found that Canadian patients are significantly more comfortable receiving care from family doctors they know and primary care teams that feature family physician expertise, versus a non-physician care provider. We can all feel inspired and grateful for this confirmation as we continue our clinical work, our patient advocacy work, and our research. .
I thank all of you who donated on McGill24 to the Department of Family Medicine towards the funding of our Academic Day, coming up on May 30 at the Bonaventure Hotel (Save the Date notice here). Next month I will be able to provide you with the full amount we raised. If you would still like to donate, .
The 51ԹProvost’s office announced this month the extension of some key 51Թpolicies for another two years: namely, the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Strategic Plan and our Action Plan to Address Anti-Black Racism. In the department, our EDI committee in our Graduate Studies Program held an EDI planning activity on Feb 27 with fruitful discussions, as well as an International Women’s Day EDI event on March 27.
On March 16, the post-graduate team organized our Department’s participation at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Montreal! A great time was had by our diverse group in attendance.
On March 21, the Faculty Development team hosted a workshop by Teaching and Learning Services on “Strategies for Interactive Teaching”, which was extremely enriching for us participants.
