Current research:

While organ transplantation has the power to restore health in patients with end-stage organ failure, its transformative potential is constrained by the need for lifelong immunosuppression, which greatly increases the risks of infections and cancer. The goal of my research program is to transform the care of patients with kidney disease and diabetes through innovative clinical strategies that integrate personalized medicine and pluripotent stem cell technology. My lab investigates human kidney and pancreas development in the context of transplant immunology to uncover cellular and molecular mechanisms of rejection and regeneration. By bridging developmental biology, immunology, and stem cell–based bioengineering, I aim to build the foundation for personalized diagnostics and cell therapies that alleviate the burden of end-organ disease.

Projects:
  1. Understanding the mechanisms of renal progenitor specification from human pluripotent stem cells through advanced molecular approaches
  2. Dissecting the molecular mechanisms of organ allorejection using human pluripotent stem cell-derived organoids
  3. Developing a platform for personalized modeling of allorejection using patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells
