Variations in surveillance methodologies across years and countries hinder meaningfu l comparisons. This talk will examine improvements and remaining shortcomi ngs in maternal mortality surveillance\, with a focus on the Canadian cont ext.\n\nLearning Objectives\n\nAt the completion of this talk\, attendees will be able to:\n\n\n To discuss the challenges encountered in Canada with maternal mortality surveillance\;\n To appraise the complexity of internat ional comparisons in maternal mortality\;\n To envision new ways to improve the surveillance of maternal mortality in Canada.\n\n\nSpeaker Bio\n\nDr. Amélie Boutin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics\, Université Laval\, and in the Reproduction\, Mother and Youth Health & Po pulation Health and Optimal Health Practices Units\, CHU de Québec - Unive rsité Laval Research Center. She is the recipient of a Junior 1 Research A ward from the Fonds de Recherche du Québec - Santé.\n\nDr. Boutin received a B.Sc. in Multidisciplinary Studies in Science (in medical\, perinatal a nd psychology fields) from the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières and a MSc and a PhD in Epidemiology from the Université Laval.
